Sunday, June 1st, 2008: Guerrero Takes Home AL Top Batter Award
Vladimir Guerrero battered American pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Major League Baseball long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Guerrero told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Guerrero hit .390 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

Batting .330 to date, Guerrero has 8 home runs and 36 RBIs.
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008: Stephens Blanks Anaheim
"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

And that's what Garth Stephens did as he led the Tigers to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Angels.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Anaheim manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

Stephens yielded 6 hits and had 9 strikeouts and no walks in a standout performance.

Stephens has posted a 6-3 record in 2008 with a 2.33 ERA. Teams are hitting .218 against him and he has rung up 81 strikeouts in 88.2 innings.
